The Grand Canyon Skywalk is a horseshoe-shaped cantilever bridge with a glass walkway in Arizona near the Colorado River on the edge of a side canyon in the Grand Canyon West area of the main canyon. USGS topographic maps show the elevation at the Skywalk’s location as 4,770 feet and the elevation of the Colorado River in the base of the canyon as 1,160 feet, and they show that the height of the precisely vertical drop directly under the skywalk is between 500 feet and 800 feet.

FEA Consulting Engineers provided comprehensive mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and low voltage engineering services for the Skywalk Visitors Center Phase 2 project in Arizona. This phase focused on transforming the second level of the gray shell space into a full-service restaurant. The project involved structural modifications to open the exterior wall adjacent to the canyon side in order to enhance the transparency of the view.

FEA also designed a new architectural enclosure for a circular stair connecting the first and second levels. The scope included detailed roofing, flashing, curtain wall details, framing and ceiling structures, ensuring a seamless integration with the existing building.
