By Robert Finnegan, PE, president and co-owner, FEA Consulting Engineers.
When people ask what makes a great engineering workplace, my answer is simple. It starts with the people, but it is sustained by the work, the culture and the opportunities we create for our team to grow.
In today’s market, engineers and designers have more choices than ever. They are not just looking for a job. They are looking for a place where they can do meaningful work, be challenged and feel supported. That has shaped how we’ve built our Las Vegas engineering firm over the past 35 years.
For me, it has always started with the type of work we take on. We want to solve real problems and see the impact of what we design. At FEA, we have been fortunate to collaborate on some of the most complex and recognizable projects in hospitality, entertainment ,and commercial development in our industry. From large-scale resorts like Resorts World, Cosmopolitan, and Circa to specialized tenant spaces and high-performance buildings, our team is consistently challenged to think critically and deliver solutions that perform in the real world.
That visibility matters. There is something different about walking into a space and knowing you helped bring it to life. Breathing life into these spaces gives our teams a sense of ownership that goes beyond drawings and specifications.

Just as important as the work is how we do it. Engineering today is a true team effort. Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and limited energy systems all must come together seamlessly. At FEA, our teams work closely across disciplines from the start, which allows us to problem-solve in real time and push ideas further. That collaboration not only leads to better outcomes for our clients, it creates a more engaging and dynamic workplace for our engineers.
Collaboration is best when our strategies are put into place with others who are also at the top of their games. We are proud to have worked with some of the world’s most iconic hospitality destinations, including Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix and Resorts World Las Vegas. In addition to shaping Las Vegas’ worldwide reputation, they challenged us and make us incredibly proud to call Las Vegas home.
For Formula 1, we provided full mechanical, plumbing, limited energy systems (low voltage), and lighting services for the paddock building, which features parking garages for the cars and racing teams, as well as suites and exhibit spaces for VIP guests. We also helped Formula 1 achieve LEED Silver status, placing it in an elite group of LEED certified developments. Check out details of our work with Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix here.
FEA Consulting Engineers also played a pivotal role in the design and development of the $4.3 billion Resorts World Las Vegas, a Four Diamond and LEED Gold certified resort recognized by AAA for its refined and stylish accommodations, high-quality amenities and a superior level of personalized service. We provided mechanical, plumbing, electrical and limited energy systems (low voltage) engineering services to Resorts World.
With every project, we develop relationships with our clients and prioritize being part of the conversation from the beginning. This helps shape design strategies instead of reacting to them later. That approach leads to better systems and gives our engineers and designers a stronger connection to the work.
Growth is also intentional. We give our teams opportunities to take ownership of major project components, lead coordination meetings and see projects through concept to completion. Many of our team members are involved in mentorship opportunities with local universities, where they share real-world insight and help prepare students for the industry.
I believe culture is built in the day-to-day experience. At FEA, that shows up in both big and small ways. We make time to celebrate project milestones and create opportunities for the team to connect outside of project work, whether through office gatherings, themed team lunches, or our iconic holiday parties. Those moments matter because they build relationships that carry over into how we work together every day.
Community involvement is another important part of who we are. Our team regularly volunteers with organizations like National Park Services at Lake Mead National Recreation Area and Friends of Red Rock Canyon, participating in cleanups and environmental efforts that support the communities we live and work in. It gives our team a chance to contribute to something bigger than any one project.
When engineers and designers feel challenged, supported and connected to their work, they do their best. And when that happens, everyone benefits—the team, the clients and the projects we bring to life.
